Our Mission

It is in the nature of a dog to please those he loves. Obedience takes this desire and molds it into a set of behaviors that allows the dog to exist in harmony with humans. Our goal is to provide personalized service, delivered with compassion and concern. We believe that optimal learning results only when the training program is individually tailored to suit the dog’s personality. Additionally, for each dog to realize his potential and not lose his enthusiasm to please, a delicate balance must be maintained between correction and reward. With this in mind, we aim to control the dog’s wild nature, but not stifle his unique personality and spirit.

Our Training Philosophy

Our philosophy is simple. We make owners the best handlers they want to be, and sometimes the handlers they need to be! Our Academy believes that there is no single “style or “method” of dog training that is totally complete and balanced by itself.

Our approach incorporates both teaching the owner how to “lead”, and what is motivating a particular behavior. Our customized training programs develop an owner’s awareness of their pet’s needs and teaches them humane techniques they can use to efficiently train their dog.

We love and more importantly, Ruger our German Shepard, love going to see Bob. We went through about four sessions of basic training with Ruger and Bob and he was seriously changed. Every time we drop him we give him at least one day if not multiple days of a refresher and he gets so excited to head that way. Our experience with Mutt Masters has been great. Our dog has gotten attacked a total of 5 times (REALLY bad luck I guess). We started coming here because our dog was reacting aggressively when he would see other dogs. After training with Bob our dog only gets a little upset, listens to us, and walks back home with no issues. I’m completely amazed by Bob’s abilities in his knowledge of training dogs. For this reason we started boarding our dog here. We are very choosy on where we leave him because we’ve had some REALLY bad experiences and even at good places he would come back with his eyes red (I’m guessing from missing us). After staying with Bob and his wife our dog does definitely miss us but he is so much better spirits. It gives me so much peace of mind in knowing our dog is getting such good care while we’re gone.

What are your main considerations when modifying a dog’s behavior?

The two main things which determine a dog’s behavior is its degree of pushiness, known as its dominance factor…Confidence is first, because that’s like the foundation to a house. Everything sets upon a foundation, and if a dog is nervous when it shouldn’t be nervous, there will be a series of reactions that are accountable to that.

Why would a dog lack confidence?

Usually it is a combination of having some genetic sensitivity to change and not getting the right level of confidence building to help the dog be less nervous/sensitive to change. Sometimes the puppy and young dog did not get out enough to become accustomed to change. And sometimes they were exposed to negative experiences leaving a lack of confidence. But most often, the sensitivity to change starts with it’s genetics.

Can a dog owner be too emotionally involved to be good dog handler?

Almost always. Overprotectiveness is a big issue for us…. We have to teach owners what they need to be. Dogs, like children, need good direction.

What do most owners not understand about their dogs?

WE ARE NOT the Dog’s Parents! We have 46 chromosomes and our canine family member has 78 chromosomes, so we can’t be it’s parent. We often don’t understand our dogs correctly because we don’t see them as a dog. If you treat your dog as a human, they will treat you as a dog, and that is not GOOD!

Why should I professionally train my dog?

We may not really understand what motivates the dog to act, and without that proper understanding provided by a professional, we cannot efficiently and humanely teach the dog what we need of him.
